Nursery Rhymes Everywhere!
What an awesome week! The children explored many rhymes this week! We learned, Little Bo Peep, Mary had a Little Lamb; Hey Diddle Diddle… the list goes on and on. The children learned these through flannel board stories, books and shared writing. We explored the poems written on giant chart paper. After learning the rhyme we played with words, finding letters, identifying spacing, matching like words and many other aspects of writing. The students went on to explore at centers that were full of opportunities to review concepts while having fun! They made two classroom books this week. One about “This Little Piggy” and “Mary had a little ____”. The little ones put their own, often silly, spin to these common rhymes. We made several books and take home games that I hope you have enjoyed with your kiddos! The Science area has an addition. I found a small pool at the store that I can fill with a variety of science and sensory materials to tempt curiosity. Our little quail continue to grow and get new feathers. They have begun to try their customary “Bob White” call that they will use as adults. We had to let the butterflies go this past week. They flew off to gather nectar from growing flowers. The butterfly adult lives only two weeks after emerging from the chrysalis. We thought it was important that they had a bit of time out in the wide world even though we will miss them! Next week we will move on to learn about BUGS!!!
