What's In Bloom...?

Our Gardening week went very well! The children learned about the parts of a plant (root, stem, leaf, and flower) and what each one does. The kiddos explored the many things that can grow in a garden and the way they grow (above ground, below, on a vine, plant or bush). We also learned the four things that plants need to grow; air, sun, water and soil. What an information filled week. The kiddos spritz painted a huge flower blossom, made garden pictures with oil pastes and used a blue wash over the top, and made garden pictures in their journals. We opened the florist shop in the dramatic play center and worked with order forms to write down orders, money to count change and flowers with pots for sorting, matching and arranging. We really enjoyed a gross motor center with balls aimed at flower buckets. Cooking with your little ones was yummy this week. We made dirt cups! The kiddos crunched up Oreos and added these "rocks" to their cups. Next we mixed in chocolate pudding to make the "mud". Last we added to wiggling gummi worms! Dirt never tasted so great! The kiddos built 3-D plants and planted their own set of carrot seeds. Don't forget to water them and give them sunlight!
